I adopted four male neutered cats from the shelter, all aged one to a year-and-a-half and... September 1, 2008 00:00:00Yes, cats can become bored. Signs of boredom typically include mayhem when they clear tabletops of breakables, swing from the drapes, or terrorize the dog. You may believe your cats feel bored when they show little interest in toys and games. But adult cats generally play much less than kittens. They’re more interested in sleeping (up to sixteen hours a day), grooming themselves and each other, and perhaps bird watching from the window.
Adult cats are designed by nature to conserve energy, and use it up in bursts of activity--as in hunting the wily mouse, or feather toy. Motion of the critter or string keeps their interest. If the treat isn’t really stinky and unusual, or the cats aren’t particularly food motivated, they may not be as excited about the hunt-and-seek game.
However, I love that you’re creating these games for your cats! It’s incredibly healthy for them to be encouraged to move and use their bodies and brains. Even if this engages them only a short time, it’s beneficial. So don’t think of them being bored quickly--think of them being engaged in a very condensed fashion. I wish more cat lovers did this for their special cats! - [Read more] |
I am in High School and I am gone for about eight hours a day at school. I have a pure... September 1, 2008 00:00:00It depends on the size of the cage. As long as she has enough room to walk around a bit, use the litter box, and even play sometimes, she should be fine. Cats normally sleep up to sixteen hours a day so she likely spends much of your school time dozing. It’s great that you have created a routine she can depend on and seems to enjoy. And keeping her from shredding property also goes a long way toward preserving your happy, loving bond. - [Read more] |
Does a cat have an idea of how much quality time you spend with it? Is the amount of time... September 1, 2008 00:00:00Quality time means different things to different cats. You must match your cat’s personality and what s/he likes to how you interact. Playful cats may thrive on games of chase. Snuggly cats adore lap sitting. Independent-minded cats enjoy simply sitting quietly in the same room with you as owners read or bustle about the house.
Cats care less about the amount of time than the routine. Ten minutes every morning, noon and night that Kitty knows happens without fail is more important than an out-of-the-blue three-hour marathon once or twice a week. Create a schedule you can live with and include your cat in various ways. For instance, while watching the evening news you can play with a fishing pole toy. During breakfast as you read the newspaper, have Kitty on your lap. Spread a towel for her to lounge while you shower. - [Read more] |
Our male Norwegian Forest Cat, Hollywood, has always been very affectionate to both me... September 1, 2008 00:00:00Give him time. Cats are creatures of habit. It takes them several days to become accustom to the new routine of being alone and having a stranger visit for feedings. Then about the time Hollywood got used to that, you came home again and the schedule changed once more. Your wife can be the one to fill the food bowls, and offer to engage in play--but don’t push it. Let Hollywood come to you, and be ready to offer attention when he finally asks. - [Read more] |
Just a few days ago our 14-year-old cat died in the basement while we were at work. We... September 1, 2008 00:00:00I am so very sorry for your loss. Your younger kitten may simply be remembering the scary episode of either watching his friend die, or simply finding the body. He may associate the location or the boxes themselves with this unpleasant memory. It might also be the disinfectant smell puts him off.
I’d recommend two things. First, buy new boxes that have no association. Second, situate them as far as possible from the previous location. Once the kitten again uses these facilities you can very gradually move the boxes back to the previous location, perhaps shifting them a foot at a time. - [Read more] |

The Webkinz Pets World - Secret Codes, Recipes December 4, 2007 15:55:21
I’ve seen that Webkinz is becoming a very popular search on the net. I went online to find out what Webkinz are all about.
Webkinz are small stuffed animals and are similar to other toys but they have special codes that will allow users to access the official site where you enter into a virtual world.
The codes allows you to feed your pet, dress them, meet friends and even earn money. The pets are popular with 7 to 12 year-old kids.
According to MSN news, their is a huge shortage for Webkinz pets as they become more and more popular. Ganz says that over 2 million units have bees sold and over one million registered users on the website.
I took a tour on the site and saw a webkinz basset hound, golden retriever and a webkinz german shepherd puppy among others in the collection catalog section. Their seems to be some concern that the kids who have these pets will spend excessive amounts of time on the net and get addicted to the game.

How To Choose A Dog For The Family October 30, 2007 16:03:07 Thinking of introducing a new dog into your family? Well, before you go out to choose a dog and bring into your home, just know that caring for dogs requires a lot of responsibility from you.
It’s a good idea to have a family discussion and decide who amongst your family members will have the major responsibility of training and taking care of the new dog.
Ensure also that you get a qualified vet preferably one near your home. Costs should also be taken into consideration since proper maintenance of dogs requires money. Other things to have around in the home include supplies such as toys, crates, bowls, beds, collars and a leash before the dog comes home. What other factors do you need to consider? At this day and age i cant understand what fun a grown up gets by watching dogs tear each other up. To be totally honest, when i used to be a kid i love watching cocks fight in our neighbourhood so i might be sounding like a hypocrite here when i say this but you get out of it as you grow up. My opinion is that dog fighting is a brutal and savage sport… - [Read more] |
How much will you pay to find your lost dog? October 20, 2007 12:45:29Can you place a price tag on your dog? How much will you be willing to pay to find it should it get lost? Well, a San Antonio woman was willing to part with her customized 91-96 Ford Mustang to anyone who would find her lost bulldog. And she kept her word after her pet, “pork chop”, which disappeared from her front yard was discovered by a gentleman whom she never got his name after he dropped the pet at her house
At first she offered a cash reward of 500 dollars to anyone who would find here pet and after getting no response, she changed tactics and decided to offer up her car. Sure enough, someone called her and told her he had found her dog.
